From the 1970s to 2002, a Shetland sweater specialty store that existed on Central Commercial Street in the Shetland Islands (Mainland), northern Scotland, had been handling Shaggy dog sweaters from early on.
It is said that shaggy dogs knit were originally used by fishermen who scratched the surface of their beloved Shetland sweaters with thistle (Scotland's national flower) thorns to raise the hair, creating an air layer that reduced cold and water droplets.
Although the shop has disappeared, it is still produced in Shetland Island, and domestic development started from 2017AW under the original label at that time.
