A pottery artist who lives in both Japan and the United States, moving between different cultures throughout his creative endeavors.
Although it has its roots in Karatsu ware, the modern, wide-ranging style of the pottery encourages users to use their imagination freely.
He grew up in Karatsu and moved to the United States alone at the age of 16, where he has spent the last half of his life ever since.
He became interested in Japan's unique food culture and returned to his hometown after graduating from university to learn pottery from his father, Takashi Nakazato.
Starting with a parent-child exhibition at Manyodo in Tokyo in 2000, he has since held numerous solo exhibitions throughout Japan and the United States.
In 2007, he established his own studio, monohanako, in his hometown of Karatsu.
In 2010, she established monoahanako West in Maine, and currently travels between Karatsu and Maine for six months each to create pottery.
*About handmade tableware:
Each handmade piece is slightly different in SIZE, color, and texture, and due to the firing process some pieces have a glossy finish, while others have roughness, distortions, pinholes, etc., giving each piece its own unique look.
Please enjoy these pieces, which will become familiar to your hands and you will grow to love as you use them.
* [Handling precautions]
■Before use
After cleaning, soak in clean water for 30 minutes to an hour, then dry thoroughly before use.
- Soaking it in water before using it for cooking will help prevent dirt and stains.
■ After use
- After use, wash by hand with dish detergent as soon as possible.
Leaving drinks or food in the container for a long period of time can cause stains, mold, and odors.
・Please refrain from using abrasives, detergents containing abrasives, cleansers, metal scouring pads, etc.
■About using the microwave oven
・We do not recommend this as it will put a strain on the device and shorten its lifespan.
*Please be careful as dishes that have scratches or cracks may break.
■About using the dishwasher
-We do not recommend this as there is a risk of damage due to water pressure or collisions between containers.
- If you put scratched or cracked containers in the dryer, they may break.
■ Storage
・After washing by hand, store in a dry place.
- When stacking, place tissue paper or air packing between each piece to prevent scratches.
■About Powder Drawing
-Due to the nature of the product, it is difficult to dry, and storing it while wet may cause mold.
・Compared to other ceramics, water is more likely to seep in and the color will change, but in the world of tea ceremony, this is called "rain leakage" and is appreciated. Please enjoy the changes that occur over time.
*For the color of the product, please check the product itself or the close-up image MATERIAL.
