While traveling between Paris and Morocco, Anne, a Parisienne, and Marouane, who was born in Morocco, became interested in raffia, a material often found in the markets of Morocco's Old Town, used to make bags and trinkets, and were inspired to make shoes out of it.
They felt sympathy for the encounter with small but highly original shops, people, and things in the alleyways, rather than the commercial and commonplace mass-consumption type shops and things that are often found on the main streets, so they designed their own unique shoes and named them "Contre-Allee," which means "alleyway" in French.
It is made by skilled Moroccan artisans who are able to maximize the suppleness and softness that is the hallmark of raffia.
