様々な質感からなる立体的なシェイプはテキスタイルに造詣のある〈LAUREN MANOOGIAN〉ならではのデザイン。
ブランド創設時より一貫してサスティナブルな環境のもとで生産されるハンドクラフトや、天然素材にこだわっている同ブランドのアイテムは、ペルーにある小さな手織り機の工場で現地の職人によりひとつひとつつくられています。

今回はLauren Manoogian氏にお話を伺いました。

1・スタイルのある人とはどんな人だと思いますか？また、あなたのスタイルを表すものは何ですか？
What do you think a person with their own style looks like?And how would you describe your own style?

私が一番良いと思うのは、まずその人が自身が持つそのエネルギーに気づいていて、服装はその次に考えることができる人だと思います。 スタイルがいい人は、自分に自信があり、自分らしく見えるだけだと思います。 服が（人を）着ているようなものではありません。 私のスタイルは一種の“ソフト実用主義者”だと思います。自分にとっては、非常に快適でありながら、さまざまな状況に合わせて進化でき、簡単に組み合わせることができる服が必要だと考えます。

I think the best is when you notice the person and their energy first and the clothing second. I think a person with great style just looks confident and like themselves. Not like the clothes are wearing them. I think my style is sort of a ‘soft utilitarian.’ I have to have clothes that are very comfortable but also can evolve to different situations and be easily put together.

2・自分の人生に影響を与えたコトはなんですか？
What has been an important influence in your life?

母は幼い頃から私にデザインと建築を教えてくれました。それが私に異なる視点を与えてくれました。 父は私に世界中を旅し、さまざまな場所に住む可能性を紹介してくれました。 どちらのことも、幼い頃から私の可能性と驚異に対する見方に影響を与えたと思います。 私はそのコンセプトにとても共鳴していましたが、以前はアイデアの一部をどのように言葉で表現したらよいのかわからなかったので、日本の文化や美学について学んだことも、ものづくりのアイデアに影響を与えました。また、私のパートナーであるクリスとペルーで一緒に働いている職人たちとのコラボレーションは、私の人生とブランドの進化に大きな影響を与えたと言えます。

My mom introduced me to design and architecture at a very young age and that really gave me a different perspective. My dad introduced me to traveling around the world and the possibilities to live in different places. I think both things have impacted my perspective of possibility and wonder from a very young age. Learning about Japanese culture and aesthetics also influenced my idea of making things as I really resonated with the concepts and didn’t know how to put some of the ideas into words before. I would also say collaborating both with Chris my partner and the artisans we work with in Peru have been a huge influence in the evolution of my life and also the brand.

3・生活する中で大切なコトは？好きなことは？
What is the most important thing/factor in your life,such as your interests,obsessions outside of work?

家族や自然とのつながりを保つことが、私の人生において創造性と地に足のついた生活を続けるための最も重要な要素だと思います。 どちらのことも私を愛で満たし、元気づけてくれます。 頭をすっきりさせて考えるスペースを確保するために、長い散歩をするのも大好きです。 私はまた、世界中の無名のヴィンテージ家具や陶器を見つけることにも少し執着しています。

I think staying connected to my family and nature are the most important factor to my life to staying creative and grounded. Both things make me feel full of love and recharged. I love also to go on very long walks to clear my mind and have space to think. I am also a little obsessive about finding obscure vintage furniture and ceramics around the world.

4・今、興味や関心があるコトは何ですか？
What are your interests and your favorite things?

私は建築やインテリアにとても興味があります。 また、私は二匹の犬をとても愛しています。

I am very interested in architecture and interiors. I also love my two dogs.

5・ファッションは自分にとってどんな存在ですか？
What does "fashion" mean to you?

私は”ファッション”にはあまり興味がありません。それは時として流行の何かを暗示することがあるからです。

I’m not so into “fashion” as it sometimes can imply something trendy.
